Default slip on mufflers

We would like to put slip on mufflers on a 2009 1200 L and would like to know if we need to install an air cleaner kit and fuelpak to remapp or will the slip on mufflers be fine alone.? One mechanic says we need to add the air filter and to remap the efi, and another mechanic says no need for the other stuff. Who do we go with it? We are a little confused as to what to do, help. Thanks Paul

If you are only adding the slip-ons, you should not need to do anything. If you put a high flow filter like a Screaming Eagle stage 1 setup, you would need to get remapped to adjust for the new air/fuel mixture.

I have a set of SE II slip on's on the wife's bike. As long as you buy the 50 state street legal set you can put them on without doing anything. Here's a picture of them on the wife's Nightster

They sound great BTW for a sporty. Louder than my 09 Ultra with the same version of pipes.

You can put on just a set of slip ons. Get the SE II 50 state legal pipes. They can get bolted on for big sound improvement without any map changes or even the need for an air filter change. Here's a pic of them on the 09 Nightster

Oh and here's a better shot of the same pipes on her 07 before they were swapped over above

Default slip on mufflers

Forgive the noob question, but why are some mufflers called slip-on and others bolt-on when it appears that they all actually bolt-on?
